UGA Service Animal and Emotional Support Animal Policy

The University of Georgia (“UGA”) is committed to maintaining a fair and respectful environment for living, work, and study for all, including individuals with accessibility needs.  To that end and in compliance with federal and state laws, this policy (“Policy”) provides general guidelines and permitted uses of animals assisting individuals with accessibility needs while on UGA property. 

This Policy does not pertain to animals being used for teaching or research, or animals receiving treatment at the College of Veterinary Medicine or at the UGA Veterinary Teaching Hospital.

UGA Service Animal Policy FAQs

The University of Georgia has become the home to several hundred service animals over the last few years.  In an effort to preserve the rights of Handlers and Partners at UGA, to promote the wellness and safety of the service animals on campus, and to remain in compliance with federal and state laws, the “Policy Regarding Service Animals Access to University of Georgia Facilities, Programs, Services and Activities” has been created.

Advisory Group for Facilities Accessibility

The Advisory Group for Facilities Accessibility shall be composed of at least one representative from the Office of University Architect for Facilities Planning, the Facilities Management Division, the Equal Opportunity Office, the Disability Resource Center, and UGA Housing.

This Advisory Group supports the University of Georgia’s primary contact responsible for Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) coordination which is the Director of the Equal Opportunity Office who also serves as the University of Georgia’s ADA / Section 504 Coordinator.
