Formerly a weekend of events, Athens Pride organizers expanded the annual series to a full week after seeing an increase in attendance during last year’s Pride Festival. Athens Pride Week kicks off Monday, September 8, with a three-day film festival at Cine that includes screenings of "Gen Silent," "Breaking Through" and "The New Black." On Thursday evening, GLOBES, the LGBTQ faculty and staff organization at the University of Georgia, will host its 20th anniversary reception at the UGA Special Collections Library, with an After Party to follow at Georgia Bar. Other events scheduled throughout the weekend include a happy hour at World Famous, Drag-a-oke at Max Canada, a youth meet and greet at Mama’s Boy and a Wig-Out Dance Party at Little Kings Shuffle Club. Athens Pride week will conclude on Sunday, September 14, with a Pride Festival featuring an artist showcase, vendors, community organization information tables, a kids play zone and more.
